Terms of Service

1. What Handvetted does

Hand Vetted Co. ("Handvetted") operates a matching service. When a homeowner submits a request, we select one business from our network that has passed our verification checks and introduce the two parties. Handvetted is not a contractor, insurance agency, lender or broker, does not perform the work, and is not a party to any agreement between you and a matched business.

2. Free for homeowners

Homeowners pay nothing to use Handvetted. Businesses pay us for the introductions they receive. That fee does not change the price a business quotes you, and we do not accept payment from a business to influence how we rate or verify it.

3. Our verification standard

Before a business can receive a match we verify its state license where the trade requires one, check the background of its owner and operators, confirm active insurance, and confirm a rating of 4.5 stars or better across review sources. A person reviews every application. Verification reflects what we could confirm at the time of review; it is not a warranty of a business's future work, pricing or conduct. You remain responsible for choosing whether to hire any business, for reviewing its contract, and for confirming permits and licensing for your specific project.

4. Your request

You agree that the information in your request is accurate, that you own or are authorized to arrange work on the property, and that you are at least 18. You agree that we may share your request with one matched business so that it can contact you. If the matched business cannot take the job, we may re-match you with another verified business at no cost.

5. Text message program terms

Program. Handvetted Match Alerts. When you submit a request and check the consent box, you consent to receive SMS and MMS text messages and phone calls from Handvetted and from the one business matched to your request, at the mobile number you provided, about that request. Messages may include confirmation that we received your request, the name of your matched business, scheduling and follow-up on your project, and requests for feedback. Calls and texts may be sent using automated technology. Consent is not a condition of purchase or of using the service.

Frequency. Message frequency varies with your request. A typical request generates fewer than ten messages.

Cost. Message and data rates may apply. Check with your carrier for details.

Opting out. Reply STOP to any message to cancel. You will receive one final message confirming that you have been unsubscribed, after which no further messages will be sent to that number unless you opt in again. You may also opt out by contacting us through our contact page.

Help. Reply HELP to any message for assistance, or use our contact page.

Carriers. Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages. Messaging is supported on major U.S. carriers; availability may vary.

Privacy. How we handle your mobile number and consent is described in our Privacy Policy. No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes.

6. Partner businesses

Businesses that apply to the network agree to provide accurate licensing, insurance and ownership information, to keep it current, to contact matched homeowners only about their request, and to honor the exclusivity, billing, dispute and conduct rules in the partner agreement provided at onboarding. Handvetted may pause or remove a business from the network at any time if its verification lapses, its rating falls below our standard, or it violates these terms or the partner agreement.

7. Acceptable use

You agree not to submit false requests, impersonate anyone, scrape or copy the site, interfere with its operation, or use it for any unlawful purpose. We may refuse or cancel any request that appears fraudulent or abusive.

8. Intellectual property

The site, its content, design and the Handvetted name and mark belong to Hand Vetted Co. or its licensors. You may view and print pages for personal use; any other use requires our written permission.

9. Disclaimers and limitation of liability

The site and the matching service are provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose. Handvetted does not guarantee the availability of a business in every area, the quality or timeliness of any work, or the accuracy of information supplied by businesses or homeowners. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Handvetted is not liable for any indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, and our total liability for any claim relating to the service is limited to one hundred dollars. Some states do not allow these limitations, in which case they apply to the extent permitted.

10. Indemnity

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Hand Vetted Co. and its officers, employees and agents from claims arising out of your use of the service, your request, or any agreement or dispute between you and a matched business.

11. Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of North Carolina, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute that cannot be resolved informally will be brought in the state or federal courts located in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, and you consent to their jurisdiction.

12. Changes

We may update these terms by posting a new version on this page with a new effective date. Continued use of the site after a change means you accept the updated terms.
