Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about how Handvetted works — whether you need a service or provide one.

GENERAL

What is Handvetted?

Handvetted is a matching service that connects homeowners with verified home service professionals. We cover roofing, HVAC, restoration, kitchen & bath renovations, homeowners insurance, and mortgage. Every business on Handvetted has been licensed-verified, background-checked, and rated 4.5+ stars before they’re eligible to receive project requests.

Those platforms sell your information to multiple companies instantly – often 5 to 15 at once. Your phone rings non-stop from businesses you never chose. Handvetted matches you with exactly one verified business. Your information is never shared with multiple companies. One match. One call. That’s it.

Currently: roofing, HVAC, restoration (water damage, fire, mold, structural repair), kitchen & bath renovations, homeowners insurance, and mortgage & refinance. We’re expanding into additional home service categories over time.

Handvetted operates nationwide across the United States and Canada. We match you with a verified professional in your specific area based on your zip code.

Every business goes through a four-point verification: active state licensing confirmed through official registries, comprehensive background check on all owners and operators, minimum 4.5-star rating across verified review platforms, and final human review by a member of our team. For Homeowners

Is Handvetted free for homeowners?

Yes. Always. Homeowners never pay anything to use Handvetted. Businesses pay to receive exclusive project requests.

One. That’s the entire point. We match you with exactly one verified professional. They already know your project details before they call. No competing pitches. No spam.

The intake form asks about your project type, scope of work, zip code, timeline, budget range, and whether you’re interested in financing. It takes about two minutes. The more detail you give, the better we can match you.

We review your project details and select one verified professional who matches your project type, location, and requirements. We brief them on your project. They reach out to you directly – usually within 24 hours.

Tell us. We’ll review the situation and rematch you with a different verified professional at no cost. Our goal is to get it right – not to get it fast.

No. Your information is shared with exactly one matched business – and, if you opt in, one lending partner. We never sell your data to multiple companies. We never share it with third-party advertisers. That’s a core principle, not a policy we might change later.

Submit a separate request for each service you need. We’ll match you with the right verified specialist for each project. For example, if you need a new roof and an HVAC replacement, those are two separate matches – each one an expert in their specific field.

Every business on Handvetted has passed our four-point verification before they’re eligible to receive any project requests. We check licensing through official state registries, run background checks, verify ratings, and have a real person review every application. Visit our Standards page for the full breakdown.

For Businesses

How do I get listed on Handvetted?

Submit an application at handvetted.com/apply. We’ll verify your licensing, run a background check, confirm your ratings, and have a team member review your application. Typical turnaround is 5–7 business days.

Pricing varies by category, geography, and project scope. All leads are priced per lead – no monthly retainers, no setup fees, no long-term contracts. Contact our team for specific pricing in your service area.

Yes. Every project request is matched to one business only. We never sell the same homeowner’s information to multiple companies. This is the core of our model and it’s non-negotiable. Your lead is yours alone.

Every lead includes the homeowner’s name, verified contact information, project type and scope, timeline, budget range, and zip code. The homeowner has been pre-screened and is expecting your call.

Yes. During onboarding, you set your preferences: which zip codes or regions you serve, which project types you handle, how many leads you want per week, and your minimum project size. We only send you projects that match your criteria. You can adjust these settings or pause at any time.

If a lead doesn’t meet our quality standards – wrong number, fake information, or outside your service area – we replace it. No questions asked. We stand behind the quality of every lead we deliver.

No. There are no long-term contracts, no monthly retainers, and no setup fees. You pay per lead. You can pause or stop receiving leads at any time with no penalties. That being said, we offer discounts on lead volume via contract for our large scale partners.

We currently accept applications from roofing contractors, HVAC contractors, restoration specialists, kitchen & bath renovation contractors, homeowners insurance providers, and mortgage/refinance lenders. You must hold valid licensing in every state you serve and meet our verification standards.

For Financing

Can I finance my project through Handvetted?

Yes. During the intake process, you can opt in to explore financing options. If you do, we’ll also match you with one verified lending partner – in addition to your service professional. Same verification standard applies to lenders.

Our lending partners offer cash-out refinancing, home equity lines of credit (HELOC), and home improvement loans. The right option depends on your equity, credit profile, and project scope – your matched lender will walk you through the options.

Often, yes. Many contractors offer in-house financing with high interest rates and aggressive terms. Handvetted’s lending partners are independently verified financial institutions offering competitive rates. And because the lender is separate from your contractor, there’s no conflict of interest.

No. Exploring financing through Handvetted is free for homeowners. You’re under no obligation to accept any loan product. It’s simply an option we make available because we know large home projects can be expensive.
